Designed to explore how parents make decisions about whether and where their child will attend 4K, 556 kindergarten families completed a survey and 51 families participated in interviews that explored factors they considered during the decision process and their beliefs about young children’s learning. We found that parents make 4K choices based on their (a) social capital, (b) beliefs and values about education and their children’s future success, and (c) schedules imposed by their jobs.
